Valor Home opens Thrift Shop
HIGHLAND SQUARE — Valor Home celebrated the grand opening of the Valor Home Thrift Shop July 27 at 764 W. Market St., behind the Two Turtles pet shop.
Hours for the thrift shop, which is supported by the American Legion Post No. 19, will be Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donations of clothes items only will be accepted.

Back to school event planned for Aug. 15
FAIRLAWN — Lucky Shoes, Stride Rite and Clarks Kids will present a Kids Back to School Extravaganza Aug. 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lucky Shoes in Fairlawn Town Centre.
Local comic artists Dan Gorman and Brian Dunphy will draw personalized comic characters for children. From 3:30 to 4:30 and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Cookie and Scoop will visit from Sweet Frog with a special offer to visit Sweet Frog.
There will be the chance to win movie tickets, a limousine ride to school, a bicycle and Clarks shoes.
In addition, GASP: Guardians Advocating Child Safety and Protection will be on hand with a children’s safety and identification station with free digital fingerprinting and data CDs.

C.W. Seiberling Mansion hits 100th anniversary

WEST AKRON — The Charles W. (“C.W.”) Seiberling Mansion, built in 1913 by C.W. Seiberling, who also co-founded the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., is celebrating its 100th anniversary. It is located at 1075 W. Market St.
Warther Financial Group will host a closed event Aug. 3 to celebrate the milestone with local friends and neighbors and showcase the efforts of Robert Warther, who, according to company officials, spared the mansion’s demolition 25 years ago and has worked to renovate the landmark.
The C.W. Seiberling Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Summit County. Charles’ brother, Franklin A. (“F.A.”) Seiberling built nearby Stan Hywet Hall at the same time, according to company officials.
